Connected T-Cross

T-Cross

The T-Cross, the new compact SUV from Volkswagen, is set to be launched in South Africa in September. With its bold design and dynamic appearance, practicality, versatility, as well as connectivity, the T-Cross will, from launch, be available with the VW Connect dataplug – an easy ‘Plug and Play’ retrofit car connectivity solution.

The development of a group-wide platform and digital services for the “Volkswagen We” ecosystem of the VW Group is being accelerated, and in South Africa, the connected community strategy of VW started with AppConnect that has been available to iOS users since 2016 and Android users since 2018.

The VW Connect dataplug is the next step in this connectivity. The dataplug that is plugged into the Onboard Diagnostic Interface, sends data via Bluetooth to the smartphone of the driver. The VW Connect dataplug processes the vehicle data, including things like car servicing, assessment of driving style, an overview of fuel consumption, automated saving of car location, and a digital logbook. The dataplug will be standard on the T-Cross Comfortline, Highline, and R-Line models.

The T-Cross will be available with a 85 kW 1.0 TSI engine at launch, and later with a 70 kW 1.0 TSI engine and 110 kW 1.5 TSI (available from the first quarter of 2020). Pre-sales of the T-Cross is now open and prices vary from R334,600 for the 85 kW 1.0 TSI Comfortline DSG and R365,000 for the Highline DSG.
