Combining unrivalled heritage with the latest available technology the recently launched new Range Rover Evoque redefines the concept of a luxury compact SUV, according to maker Land Rover.
Having pioneered the luxury compact SUV market, with global sales of over 772,096 and more than 217 international awards, the new Range Rover Evoque, introduced to the world late last year, is a sophisticated evolution of the original.
Technological firsts in the newcomer include ‘see through bonnet’ technology and a rear-view mirror that turns into an HD screen displaying a camera feed of what is behind the vehicle, while underneath the skin its new architecture accommodate not only a choice of existing two-litre petrol and diesel turbo engines, but both plug-in and mild hybrid systems.
Building on the instantly-recognisable shape of the original, the design of the new Evoque is a sophisticated evolution of the distinctive coupé-like silhouette, typified by a distinguishing fast roofline and rising waist that identify the Range Rover family. Its outstanding volume and proportions are amplified by pronounced shoulders and powerful wheel arches that, alongside 21-inch wheels, combine to create a dynamic attitude.
Jewel-like elements such as super-slim Matrix LED headlamps provide a more sophisticated front and rear lamp graphic, while flush door handles add to the sculpted aesthetic. Optional R-Dynamic details and burnished copper accents add unique appeal.
Longer wheelbase
The new Evoque is based on the new mixed-metal Premium Transverse Architecture of Land Rover, which is 13% stiffer than its predecessor and together with rigidly-mounted subframes, reduces noise and vibration intrusion into the cabin.
With a 21 mm longer wheelbase and compact new suspension design (consisting of an Integral Link rear suspension and MacPherson strut Hydrobush front suspension) it yields 20 mm extra rear knee-room and an increase in small item stowage – the glove box and centre cubby can now fit tablets and bottles with ease. The luggage space is 10% larger (591 litres) with space increasing to 1,383 litres when the 40:20:40 second-row seats are folded.
The Ingenium engines, delivering 132 kW and 430 Nm in Td4 diesel format and 183 kW and 365 Nm in Si4 petrol guise, have been advanced with new tech to make them quieter and the ZF nine-speed auto gearbox has been recalibrated, according to Land Rover.
Inside, the design integrates uncluttered surfaces and simple lines with carefully curated premium materials to create a luxurious, minimalist, digital cabin. Technical textiles that use recycled plastics are offered as alternatives to leather, such as a Kvadrat wool blend and Dinamica suede cloth, as well as Eucalyptus and Ultrafabrics options.
The all-wheel drive Evoque features a second-generation Active Driveline with Driveline Disconnect to enhance efficiency, and Terrain Response 2 is now, for the first time, available as standard. Its ground clearance is 212 mm, while approach and departure angles are 25 degrees in the front and 30.6 degrees in the rear. It can now wade through 600 mm (previously 500 mm) of water.
With a variety of all-terrain technologies and world-first ClearSight Ground View, which grants greater visibility beneath the vehicle when tackling uneven terrain, the latest Evoque has all the necessary off-road credentials. It is set to be launched here early this year. Watch a film of the new model here: https://youtu.be/FBet1LPqb2c
