HAVAL LAUNCHES H9

FLAGSHIP SUV FROM CHINESE AUTOMAKER

Haval, SUV division of Chinese automaker GWM, has introduced its first four-wheel drive model on local shores. Joining its range of small two-wheel drive SUV derivatives (the 1.5-litre H1, H2, and H6) the large seven-seater flagship H9 is powered by a revised version of the two-litre petrol engine of Haval, with double-channel turbocharging, now delivering 180 kW of power at 5,500 rpm (up from 160 kW) and maximum torque of 350 Nm (up from 324 Nm) from 1,800 rpm up to 4,500 rpm.

This engine is coupled to an eight-speed 4WD automatic gearbox by German transmission experts, ZF. The transmission offers a choice of six on-road and off-road driving modes (Auto, 4-low, Sports, Sand, Snow, and Mud) via a multi-functional display knob. In sport mode, the Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) reduces system interference and improves the driving experience, while in 4L (as well as Sand, Snow- and Mud-mode) it amplifies torque delivery to the wheels with the best grip and aided by an electronic Limited Slip Differential on the rear axle, it maximises off-road performance.

Active safety features include airbags, seat belt pre-tensioners, Isofix child seat anchors, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and driver status detection system, and a full complement of driver aid systems. Inside, the H9 is fully specced, with three rows of leather seats (electrically foldable at the rear), three-zone climate control, an advanced multi-media system, and integrated satellite navigation.

The H9 2.0 Petrol 4WD Luxury (the only model now available) also has automatic headlights, day-time running lights, a sunroof, shark-fin antenna, roof rails, side steps and 18-inch alloy wheels – all for only R599,900, including a five-year/100,000 km warranty, a five-year/60,000 km service plan, and five-year/unlimited km roadside assistance.
