Auto-Duster

The popular Renault Duster range has now been further enhanced with the introduction of a new model with EDC (Efficient Dual Clutch).

The EDC is a 6-speed automatic gearbox with two clutches to optimise efficiency, with the ideal gear selected via an electronic control unit. According to Renault, this “dry” dual clutch system combines the comfort of an automatic with the responsiveness of a manual transmission.

The French automaker claims that this system offers further flexibility and fuel efficiency. Mated exclusively to the acclaimed, punchy 1.5 dCi turbodiesel engine with an output of 80 kW and torque delivery of 250 Nm, it consumes only 4.8 litres of diesel per 100 km, and emits only 126 g/km of CO2.

The Duster EDC model is, unlike its manual counterpart, only offered in two-wheel drive configuration; a pity really, as a 4×4 derivative would have broaden its application. However, it seems the four-wheel drive system may put too much strain on the clutch and auto gearbox system.

With the addition of the auto model (available from mid-August) the Duster range also gains standard cruise control across the range, and a 7-inch MediaNav touch screen, plus a rear parking camera and leather finishing is optionally available in the Dynamique models.

Pricing ranges from R239,900 for the Duster 1.6 Expression 4×2, to R304,900 for the flagship 1.5 dCi Dynamique 4×4, with the recommended retail price for the Duster 1.5 dCi Dynamique EDC set at R299,900.
