Grandland X breaks cover
The third member of the Opel X-family, the new Grandland X, has broken cover in South Africa. The latest model from the Lightning Bolt, essentially a Peugeot 3008 with Opel styling, is ideally equipped and well positioned to take on the burgeoning SUV market, according to Rüsselsheim.
It has a sharp, elegant design with the Opel Blitz prominently displayed on the bold grille, and chrome winglets leading to slim, double-wing LED headlamps. The hood features the signature Opel crease and clear lines on the side and blade on the lower doors identify this model as a member of the Opel family.
Inside, the instrument panel and centre stack, with touchscreen and three horizontal rows of controls for fast and intuitive access to infotainment, climate control, and chassis functions, are clearly laid out. The SUV-typical elevated seating position eases ingress/egress and ensures good visibility, FlexFold seats can be stowed with one hand movement, and a generous load volume from 514 litres to a maximum of 1,652 litres is offered.
Assistance and comfort features include advanced park assist, AGR-certified ergonomic seats, a heated steering wheel, seat heating, power tailgate, top connectivity with IntelliLink systems, and adaptive LED headlamps.
The Grandland X is only offered with a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine (121 kW and 240 Nm) mated to a six-speed auto gearbox and is available in three trim levels – Standard, Enjoy, and Cosmo. Pricing range from R429,000 for the Grandland X 1.6T, R465,000 for the mid-spec 1.6T Enjoy and R565,000 for the top-line 1.6T Cosmo.
