After a short break from the South African market, the Panda is back – this time in Cross format with 4×4-drive.
This 4×4 derivative was released overseas three years ago and, according to Fiat, the Panda “creates another evolution leap” by creating a new category achieved by combining the drive system and technical capabilities of a true off-roader with the compact dimensions, efficiency, and agility of a city car – at half the price of large SUVs in Europe.
While only 3,7 m long, 1,66 m wide, and 1.66 m high, the Panda Cross is surprisingly roomy inside, with 225 litres of boot space. Its styling details – including a front skid plate with integrated driving lights, tow hooks, redesigned headlights, pronounced wheel arches, 15-inch alloy wheels, new roof bars, and a new rear bumper with underbody protection – makes it distinctive and recognisable, and also optimises off-road performance.
The Cross will be available with the 59 kW/190 Nm 1.3 MultiJet II diesel and 66 kW/145 Nm 0.9 TwinAir Turbo petrol engine, the latter with specific 6-speed gearbox and short first gear.
Compared to the Panda 4×4, the Cross has better approach and departure angles (24 ° and 34 °) and ramp angle (+1 °). Pricing was not available at the time of going to print.
