The imminently expected extensively revamped Ford Ranger will besides its proven 3,2-litre diesel mill be offered with a refined and powerful Bi-turbo 2,0-litre diesel engine, and a class-leading 10-speed automatic transmission.
This sophisticated four-cylinder EcoBlue diesel engine deliver up to a 9% fuel-efficiency improvement when combined with the new 10-speed transmission, according to Ford. The engine line-up will be led by the Bi-turbo version of the EcoBlue engine, rated for 157 kW and 500 Nm of torque (versus 147 kW and 470 Nm for the current 3,2-litre TDCi engine) for even greater load-hauling capability.
The updated Ranger, with SYNC 3 connectivity and FordPass Connect on-board modem technology of Ford, is the first vehicle in its class to offer Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection and Intelligent Speed Assist as standard. The double-cab high-power variants feature Active Noise Control technology and both the flagship Ranger Wildtrak and Ranger Limited models will offer new premium features, including an easy-lift tailgate.
The new 2.0-litre engine will also be available with a single variable-geometry turbo delivering either 95 kW and 340 Nm of torque or 125 kW and 420 Nm of torque – designed specifically to deliver more air at lower engine revs compared with the 2.2-litre TDCi engine.
Design changes include a revised front bumper and a new grille while higher-series versions feature bi-xenon headlamps and LED daytime running lights. The interior now comes with Ebony Black trim, and the Limited models feature black leather seats and an exclusive 17-inch wheel design.
