MORE VARIETY FOR SMALL VOLVO SUV
The Volvo XC40 is now available in T3 guise, bringing even more variety to the model line-up awarded the 2018 European Car of the Year title. The new 1.5-litre direct injection engine, the first three-cylinder powerplant in the 91-year history of the company, delivers a healthy 115 kW of power and 265 Nm of torque. It was developed in-house using the same modular design as the four-cylinder Drive-E engines of Volvo.
The powertrain is now available here paired with a six-speed manual transmission, while an optional eight-speed auto will follow later next year. The three-cylinder engine has been designed for integration into the Twin Engine plug-in hybrid cars and a hybridised as well as a pure electric powertrain option for the XC40 will be added later.
The XC40 is quickly turning into a volume seller in the South African market and with the addition of the T3engine, customers now have even more options when choosing a model. The T3 Manual with Momentum trim level is now available for R486,500, while the Inscription model is priced at R518,200.
