Volvo’s first compact SUV is here
The new XC40 Volvo, their first premium compact SUV, is now available in South Africa and with the title of 2018 European Car of the Year already under its belt, it is set to create another stir for Volvo in South Africa.
The latest evolution in the design language of Volvo has given the XC40 an expressive and unique exterior, while its interior inherits all of the latest Volvo design elements, including the nine-inch Sensus Connect touch screen and digital instrument cluster. Optional contrasting black or white roof, white mirror caps and wheels, Oxide Red leather and ‘Lava’ carpets, made from recycled materials, allow XC40 customers to express a more individualistic style.
Functionality is a major focus of the XC40, with features like a removable rubbish bin, a cubby hole hook, a dedicated smartphone storage area with wireless (inductive) charging, and a multi-adaptable boot floor.
Two trim levels (R-Design and Momentum), two engines (D4-diesel or T5-petrol) and all-wheel drive on all models are available, while the top-of-the-range Inscription derivatives, as well as T3 front-wheel drive version, will arrive later this year.
Key safety features on the XC40 include City Safety, Pedestrian, Cyclist, and Large Animal Detection, Rear Collision Warning, Lane Keeping Aid, Road Sign Information System, Pilot Assist (optional), Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Alert, Park Assist Pilot, Run-off Road Mitigation, Run-off Road Protection, and Driver Alert Control.
Pricing for the nine local XC40 models range from R489,500 for the entry-level T3C Manual Momentum (available from October) to R649,700 for the T5 Geartronic AWD R-Design, with Inscription models still to follow.
