POTENT NEW PORSCHE CAYENNE MODELS
Porsche has launched its latest Cayenne models in South Africa, and in terms of power and performance, the latest Turbo serves as prime example of what can be termed a hyper-UV. With 404 kW now delivered by its four-litre V8 biturbo engine, it is as quick as numerous supercars. However, the challenge for hyper-UV producers is how to transfer all that power to the road. No wonder then that the latest, visually enhanced Cayenne is based heavily on the iconic Porsche 911 sports car.
This third edition Cayenne with new chassis, slightly bigger, yet lighter, body, redesigned interior, and new control and connectivity systems now has mixed tyre sizes and rear-axle steering for the first time, as well as active all-wheel drive, Porsche 4D Chassis Control, three-chamber air suspension, and the famous Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC) electronic roll stabilisation system. The Turbo even has an adaptive roof spoiler (a first for an SUV) and programmed modes for mild off-roading.
The six-cylinder three-litre turbo engine in the Cayenne now delivers 250 kW (29 kW more than before) and 450 Nm of torque, the 2.9-litre twinturbo V6 in the S-model now delivers 324 kW (up by 15 kW) and 550 Nm of torque. The raucous V8 biturbo mill of the Turbo now develops 22 kW more than its predecessor – and 770 Nm (up by 20 Nm) of torque, all fed to the wheels by a new eight-speed Tiptronic S-transmission. Prices range from R1,142,000 for the Cayenne to R2,158,000 for the Turbo.
