PERKY KONA

NEW HYUNDAI MAKES A BOLD STATEMENT

With its bold, confident and unique front and rear design the new Kona fills an important slot as an eye-catching crossover model in the local line-up of Hyundai. It is now available with a high specification level and a choice of two engines – including a perky new turbocharged petrol power plant.

Its head-turning lines include a unique twin headlight design with LED daytime running lights positioned above the composite main lamps. The bold front and rear of the Kona are emphasized by its wide stance and voluminous, confident crossover styling.

The new Kappa 998cc T-GDI threecylinder turbocharged petrol engine in the Kona provides 88 kW and 172 Nm maximum torque. It is a perky power plant equipped with an electronically controlled waste-gate actuator that improves fuel efficiency, throttle response, and lowend torque. It is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox that feeds the power to the front wheels (a Kona AWD model is available overseas but was not considered for local introduction).

The Atkinson-cycle two-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine in the Kona 2.0 NU Executive also delivers 110 kW, but 180 Nm of torque, and is coupled with a six-speed auto transmission that offers a choice between Comfort, Eco, or Sport driving modes.

The interior offers plenty of space for passengers and luggage (361 litres) and a host of convenience features. The Kona 1.0 T-GDI Executive (manual) enters the local market at a launch price of R379,900, while the Kona 2.0 NU Executive (automatic), comes with a price ticket of R399,900.
